What regulations govern pest control
Deratization is a set of measures aimed at destroying various kinds of rodents – mice, rats, voles and even moles. Such measures involve cleaning the premises and the surrounding area – as a result, the harmful rodents that are there are destroyed, and their reappearance and reproduction in the area is made impossible.
Rodents cause damage not only to the economy by destroying land and destroying crops. They pose a real threat to health, as they carry dangerous diseases. That is why Ukraine has developed a number of regulations that oblige enterprises and business owners to carry out periodic deratization. Various methods are used in this process, including mousetraps, predators that hunt rodents, poisons and poisonous gases.
What general acts regulate the process of deratization
One of the main regulations on deratization is part two of Article 18 of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases” No. 1645-III. According to it, legal entities must ensure preventive actions to exterminate rodents and insects if they own land plots, buildings, residential and industrial premises.
Regulatory acts of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine also regulate this procedure for children’s educational, preschool and healthcare facilities. They regulate the process and procedure for performing deratization. Such works are also included in the list of activities regulated by the Order of the State Committee of Ukraine for Supervision of Labor Protection No. 15 dated January 26, 2005.
Additional regulations governing the deratization process
Regulations and laws include:
- Fundamentals of the Legislation of Ukraine on Health Care of 19.11.1992 No. 2801-XII;
- On ensuring sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population of 24.02.1994 No. 4004-XII;
- On Counteracting the Spread of Diseases Caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Legal and Social Protection of People Living with HIV of 23.12.2010 No. 2861-VI and sanitary and epidemiological rules and regulations;
- Art. 16 of the Law on Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases, which specifies how and when to carry out disinfestation.
There is also supervision over enterprises that must comply with sanitary legislation and citizens in the area of protecting the population from infectious diseases. It is regulated by acts of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
