Pest control at the enterprise – how to do everything correctly

08.04.2025

Pest control is a set of measures aimed at destroying mice, rats and other rodents on the territory of an enterprise. It is carried out to ensure sanitary standards, protect products, protect the health of employees and preserve the image of the company.

Many people do not attach importance to mice, but they can cause significant economic losses. They can damage equipment, spoil raw materials and finished products. Moreover, these rodents can carry infections and spread dangerous diseases among personnel – for example, leptospirosis and salmonellosis. This is very dangerous.

Also, their presence at the enterprise can negatively affect the reputation and lead to a massive loss of customers.

So, when to carry out pest control?

Three cases when pest control is necessary

Дератизація на підприємствіPest control at the enterprise should be carried out regularly, and not only when mice and rats are detected. There are three additional cases where this is really necessary:

  • The appearance of indirect signs – you did not notice the rats themselves, the products are not damaged, but there are traces of rodent activity (cracks in the baseboards, feces, smell).
  • Recent repairs – after repairs and even minor construction work.
  • Seasonal measures – it is worth additionally carrying out deratization with the onset of autumn and the first frosts, when rodents seek shelter.

Deratization methods

In general, there are many different methods for combating mice and rats at the enterprise – and they can be divided into several groups.

  • Chemical methods are poisons: rodenticides, which can be anticoagulants or those that act on the nervous system.
  • Biological means are the use of microorganisms or their metabolites that inhibit the reproduction of rodents.

Both of these methods are dangerous, and therefore must be carried out under the supervision of professional fumigators.

  • Physical methods include the use of traps, mousetraps, and various traps.

Additional actions include controlling the entry of rodents into the area – that is, eliminating the ways of penetration (sealing cracks and crevices in the walls and floor). Meanwhile, this method can only partially solve the problem and only for a while.

Rules for conducting deratization

Before conducting deratization, it is necessary to draw up a plan, but in any case, this process must be preceded by an analysis of the situation and a study of the territory to identify places of penetration and habitat of rodents. All this makes it possible to choose the right methods of countermeasures.

The second stage is the preparation of the premises, the removal of products that may be damaged during processing (for example, if the method of spraying poison with hot or cold fog was chosen). The safety of employees should be ensured and all necessary personal protective equipment should be prepared. In addition, it is mandatory to notify all employees of the planned measures.

The third stage is the actual deratization using the selected method and entering information about the measures into the appropriate logbook, recording the date of the operation, the means used, the place of operation and the placement of poisons.

The fourth stage should be monitoring to assess the effectiveness of the actions and conduct additional systematic preventive treatments to prevent the reappearance of rats.

Deratization at the enterprise requires a comprehensive, professional approach and compliance with safety rules, and therefore, for everything to be correct and effective, it is best to contact specialists, rather than conducting dubious experiments and not resorting to folk methods.
